Manatee Park is a non-captive warm water refuge for the Florida Manatee. Optimum viewing months are late December, January, and February when the gulf temperature is below 68F. Manatees are generally not present during the warm summer months. Current Gulf temperature may be found at SCCF Recon.

Yes, you’ve heard right. SW Florida’s rivers and streams are rich with fossils of all kinds and fossil hunting is a lot of fun. At Fossil Expeditions, kids can find alligator bones and shark’s teeth – everyone can come home with a fossil that they had personally excavated. It is a full day trip, as you have to drive an hour to Alva northeast of Cape Coral and then on to your dig site. J.N. DING DARLING NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge, on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel, is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. President Harry S. Truman signed an executive order creating the Sanibel National Wildlife Refuge in 1945 for the purpose of and in 1967 was renamed in honor of Jay Norwood Darling. It is world famous for spectacular migratory bird populations.
